Makenzy joined the Martin Lab in 2020, where her thesis work focused primarily on ATP and Ca2+ signaling in metastatic breast cancer. She graduated in 2024 and stayed on as a postdoc with the Martin lab. As of 2025, Makenzy has started a new postdoctoral postition at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus with Dr. Jennifer Richer.
