Post-doctoral Fellow

Research

She recently defended her dissertation with the Martin Lab Spring 2024, entitled: Mechanisms of Altered Calcium Signaling via ATP-activated P2Y2 Receptor in Breast Cancer Cells. Makenzy is currently in the process of wrapping up her research at UMB and looking at future job prospects.

Makenzy’s graduate research focused on calcium mechanotransduction signaling via the cytoskeleton in breast cancer cells. She has applied techniques previously studied in bone and muscle to breast tumor cells with hopes to better understand how environmental cues are ignored or adapted in cancer cells. Recently, she has been focusing on mechanometabolism and how mitochondria may play a role in mechanosensing.
